ABOUT PLUMBAGO

Plumbago Volunteer Services is Indian River County's only Volunteer Center. As the key resource for volunteer involvement, the Center brings together individuals, non-profit organizations, governmental agencies, faith-based communities, and civic groups together with community needs through a range of programs and services.

Our mission is to promote volunteerism, connect people with opportunities to serve, and to build the capacity of volunteer programs.

 
  • Founded in July 2008
  • Indian River County's only Volunteer Center
  • List over 100 volunteer opportunities in Opportunity Database
  • Referred 100 volunteers to 20 different agencies in 2009.
  • Send out an E-Newsletter once a month and three E-Blasts each month full of volunteer opportunities, nonprofit spotlights, news and information of interest to our members and supporters.

PROGRAMS & SERVICES

  • Disaster Planning and Response - Should a disaster adversely impact Indian River County, Plumbago Volunteer Services and the United Way of Indian River County will set up and manage a Volunteer Reception Center to help coordinate and facilitate unaffiliated volunteers who wish to help in the community.
 
  • Volunteer Opportunities Database - Connect students and citizens to vounteer opportunities throughout Indian River county via the Volunteer Opportunities database, an interactive website which allows volunteers to browse and select volunteer opportunities.
 
  • Volunteer Promotion and Recognition - Collaborate with public agencies, non-profit organizations, and private businesses to draw attention to the contribution volunteers make to our community. Promote special projects and events held by community based organizations and their partners. Creates events that exposes the community to a myriad of ways in which they can become involved and applauds the volunteers who contribute to the betterment of Indian River County.
 
  • Volunteer Recruitment and Referral - Publicize member organizations' volunteer needs through our on-line matching system the Volunteer Opportunities Database.
 
  • Volunteer Coordinator's Network - is a collaboration  between Plumbago Volunteer Services, Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP), and Youth Volunteer Corps (YVC) that serves as a resource for volunteer managers, offer individuals and agencies the opportunity to network with similar professionals, and provide monthly meetings, workshops, and advocates for volunteer issues.
